The most important relationship you can have is the one with yourself.

I found the most beneficial exercises to be Loving-Kindness and meditation. I find Loving-Kindness to be so beneficial to me personally because I was able to create a certain confidence and love for myself that I did not think would be possible about 6 months ago. I have developed extremely well throughout this course and have learned to love myself and realized how important it is to give kindness and love to yourself before you can give it to anyone else. I also found meditation to be very beneficial because it can calm your mind in so many situations that it creates a natural calm and can tie into creating a subtle mind. I thoroughly enjoyed learning about Loving-Kindess and meditation and have used them avidly throughout the past 9 weeks. I have implemented them into my life by changing many things about myself and just letting myself grow into a young adult without fighting it by trying to hold on to my youth. I have come to realize that you cannot control everything, everything happens for a reason and a calm mind is better than a stressed mind. I really enjoyed this course and hope everyone else did too!

  1. Hi Sarah,

Great, insightful post. I am glad you found the loving-kindness meditative exercise beneficial. I agree with your comments and also think that the relationship you have with yourself should be one that is filled with love. If you can't love yourself it makes it very challenging to love anything else--the environment, your family, and your friends. To do this you don't necessarily have to forget the experiences of your youth but you need to become ok, see them as learning experiences and then plan on using them as a platform where you can continue to grow as a person.

  2. You are absolutely right that everything happens for a reason and we can’t control everything. This tends to be a hard concept to learn or accept. I don’t know how young you are, but for you to realize this concept now is a good thing for the rest of your life no matter what your age. It also sounds like you had a good experience with this class. I hope you will continue using the skills to further “mature” in your life.
I had a hard time learning how important it was to put myself first so I could truly care for others. It hit me about two years ago that I had been neglecting myself and even though I was helping people, it wasn’t quality help I was giving. It has been a long two years with a lot of self-discovery. Of course I also started classes at Kaplan that made me realize I am worth caring about so I can provide the true care I want to give to others around me. The journey is only beginning so enjoy every minute of it. Thanks for sharing your experience.
